Handblown Glass

Artist’s Statement

The form, movement and color of marine life have always fascinated me and now provide the inspiration for my glass work. Whether abstract or realistic, I start with the shape and motion of my subject and interpret its beauty into the molten glass, adding color if the subject demands. Each unique piece is an interpretation of how nature acts and reacts to its environment. Each sculpture is handblown, hot sculpted and one of a kind. No two sculptures of my work will ever be the same. While aquatic life is my focus, I am gradually adding other animals and pieces of nature to my repertoire and hope to never stop evolving.

Background

Cody studied art and biology at Wittenberg University, creating his own major with a studio art emphasis in glass-blowing through the university, The Glass Axis glass-blowing studio in Columbus, Ohio and the Springfield Museum of Art. That pursuit resulted in a senior art exhibit of 12 glass art sculptures for which he received the Presidential Award for the most outstanding senior art exhibit and a purchase by Wittenberg University for its permanent collection.

River’s End Gallery is proud to represent Cody in southeastern Wisconsin.
