I love being behind the camera. It's my meditation, my Zen,
my way of finding my center. My goal when I shoot is to bring images to the
viewer that translate that feeling of peace.
I look for a variety of subjects, but I'm drawn more to the details and
patterns in nature that often go unnoticed. When I'm out in nature I walk
quietly and try to blend in; quieting my mind to see what Mother Nature is
giving me that day. Most of the time I find myself on my hands and knees,
looking at low angles for new perspectives, picking out the patterns and
colors and details that most of us walk past without noticing. I want my
viewers to feel the sun, smell the leaves, take a deep breath, and want to
look deeper.
Growing up in Wisconsin I have always looked forward to the next season. The
swelling buds pushing out new growth, summer flowers and beautiful sunrises,
fall colors that dazzle against blue skies, the first snows of winter.
I consider myself more of an "old school" photographer. While I truly
appreciate digital artists who can create stunning surrealist art, my best
and favorite images are the ones I barely touch, photographs where the
camera becomes invisible and the image I capture is a direct reflection of
what I see in my mind's eye.
