Glass vases, dishes, bowls
Kiln firing lets Tony take flat glass and make it into something with
extreme dimensionality. At red hot temperatures the glass achieves fluid
shapes that suggest (paradoxically) a frozen moment in time. His challenge
is to control the glass so to capture the moment at precisely the point
where it is the most useful and most pleasing to the eye.
Tony’s background as an electronics technician has contributed to the
skills he now use in glass working, including equipment fabrication, precise
record keeping and an experimental approach to problem solving. In his work,
the creative spirit must have a friend in the scientific mind, so he is
always trying to cultivate both.
Tony’s studio is nestled in the hills of upstate New York, where a good
humored group of people and Tony make the work, listen to music, drink
coffee, and help each other out.
